Psalms 19 The Glory And Wonder Of God

Psalm 19 is a beautiful and powerful psalm that extols the glory and wonder of God's creation. It is divided into two parts: the first part (verses 1-6) describes the heavens and the second part (verses 7-14) describes the law of the Lord. The first part of Psalm 19 begins with the declaration "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (Psalm 19:1) The psalmist marvels at the beauty and grandeur of the heavens, from the rising of the sun to the setting of the stars. He describes how the heavens "speak" of God's glory and how their message is heard "throughout the earth." The psalmist goes on to say that the heavens "have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them" (Psalm 19:3), yet their message is clear to all who see them. He concludes this section by saying that "the law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul" (Psalm 19:7). The second part of Psalm 19 shifts focus from the heavens to the law of the Lord. The psalmist declares that the law of the Lord is "more desirable than gold, even much fine gold" (Psalm 19:10) and that it is "sweeter than honey, even dripped from the comb" (Psalm 19:10). The psalmist also states that the law of the Lord gives wisdom to the simple, and understanding to the youthful (Psalm 19:7) The psalmist also acknowledges his own faults and ask for guidance from God, he says "who can discern his own errors? Forgive my hidden faults."(Psalm 19:12) He concludes the psalm by saying "let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer" (Psalm 19:14) In summary, Psalm 19 is a powerful psalm that extols the glory and wonder of God's creation. It describes the heavens as a testament to God's glory and the law of the Lord as a guide for living a righteous life. It encourages the readers to seek guidance from God and to strive for perfection in their thoughts, words and actions. It is a reminder that God's creation and his laws are perfect, and that they can bring refreshment and wisdom to those who seek them.
